Extraordinary pictures have emerged of people sledging down the red SAND DUNES in the SAHARA Desert after it saw SNOW for only the second time in four decades. Photographer Hamouda Ben Jerad captured people slipping and sliding down the sand dunes after the small Saharan desert town of Ain Sefra saw a freak winter storm earlier this week. The locals made the most of the snow day as they played on the steep snowy slopes in the world's hottest desert. The town had not seen snow for 37 years when it arrived this time last year and locals were stunned when it began falling on dunes on Sunday. Last year the town, known as "The Gateway to the Desert" saw deep snow shortly after Christmas and it caused chaos, with passengers stranded on buses after the roads became slippery and icy.
