Galicica

Ski center Oteshevo (Suvo pole) located on Mount Galichica divided into two parts at south- eastern slope to the peak Lako Signoj 1984m, and the other part of this ski resort is at the opposite site , namely the south- western slope to the peak Tomorus 1675m. Settled in the district of Suvo pole at base height of 1480 m and the highest closing point reaches 2150 m. The entire complex has three ski lifts and a double chairlift but currently is not working.

Planned restructuring  project includes installation of 8 new ski lifts and  a cable car, new ski trails with a length of 12 km. As well, considered as a potential, there  are new trails especially  for freeride skiing and snowboarding, that  extend at the north side of Old Galichica under peaks Magaro 2252m and Kota F10 2265m. These areas are characterized by snow remaining  long period during the winter, which are now partly used by adventurers seeking more adrenaline. These areas are difficult to access especially in the winter and they can be accessed only on foot.

National Park Galichica a “core “ of biodiversity in the Balkans and Europe. Exceptional wealth of habitats and species apart this park from other park areas of similar size. Almost 25.000 ha are covered with rich biodiversity what defines the national, European and global significance of the National Park. The international  significance of biodiversity in the Park is confirmed by numerous nominations such as ” Emerald area ” , ” Important plant area ” ” Primary area of butterflies ” , “UNESCO’s  World heritage “and potentially ” Natura 2000 area . ”

Other natural values of the park are Old Galichica and the island Golem Grad , which for their overall geomorphological features represent  rare or unique forms in Southeast Europe and grass terraces of Old Galichica with certain features are unique or extraordinary rare in the Euro Mediterranean region , but also globally.

Galichica National Park and tourist zone offers visitors numerous recreational and tourist attractions . For those who want to recreate and enjoy nature can use marked pedestrian , bicycle and hiking trails and vast alpine grasslands that occurred due to human impact . Besides the exceptional views along the trail an opportunity to learn about both cirques, а geomorphological phenomena, is a plus . This part of the mountain  walks through the natural pasture that are extremely rich in plant and animal species, some of which you will not find anywhere else. At favorable weather, from Magaro you have a beautiful scenic view on both lakes.

Some of the most beautiful parts of the park are easily accessible, such as island “Golem grad ” in Lake Prespa – the only island in the country. In order to get there, using a boat is a must, and  transportation can be found in nearby villages Konjsko and  Stenje.

Galichica National Park is also a popular destination for paragliders .Take off point is usually at the locality ” Baba ” , the regional road Ohrid – Trpejca -Carina- Resen , and safe landing available at auto – camp ” Ljubanista ” beach .

You will need several days in order to explore and enjoy the landscape of National Park Galichica. Do not worry about lodging for the night . Most of the tourist and catering facilities in Ohrid and Prespa are  located within the Park. Apart from numerous high and middle category hotels, most of the villages and coast suburbs offer accommodation ,as well as several auto camps .

Galichica MTB trail is a great place for mount biking. The trail meets the criteria both  for drivers who make beginners steps and more experienced ones. Driving up the trail offers the participants a memorable view of the lake from Ohrid to Krstec, Stage 1-3, a view that is unforgettable forever. The rest of the trail is marked by mountainous plateau with grass cover. The abundance of diverse flora and interest relief forms further increase driving pleasure.

IKAR Hut comes from a warm and cozy family house of scientists, doctors, engineers, artists and adventurers. It was an inspiration and a birthplace of many academic researches.Today it is more of an artistic place with limited capacity on 12 beds, situated in one of the nicest neighborhoods around Lake Ohrid with stunning lake and mountain views.
