Ponikva

Ponikva a small resort and weekend settlement in eastern Macedonia , 20 km north of Kocani situated on Osogovski Mountains whose highest peak is 2252m Ruen.

Located at an altitude of 1,560 m in an area with dense beech forest and diverse vegetation. Ponikva occupies a particularly important place in the development of tourism and Osogovo’s development in general.

The urban area consists of three ski lifts, vacation homes , sport and recreation pitches , hotels , resorts , restaurants , and service providers for ski equipment . Ponikva , despite the weekend settlement , several motels , a weekend retreat and a capacity of 220 beds.

The natural beauty, ecological environment and favorable climate are ideal for the large attendance of tourists. Besides Ponikva, Osogovo has other excellent locations where  trails for skiing with greater length  could be built, such as fields under Tsarev Vrv ( Sultan Tepe – 2076 m).

As a special tourist attraction, for lovers of hunting, near the sports recreation center Ponikva , is the wildlife sanctuary.

Commercial hunting ground – sanctuary offers visitors the opportunity to hunt deer and accommodation as well. As a natural unity that extends into two states Osogovski Mountain range covers a total area of 1,535 km2, and after the mountain range Jakupica (Mokra Planina) is the second largest mountain in the country. Besides the highest peak Ruen 2.252 m, there are few more higher than 2000 m.

Ponikva ski center is a small but well equipped resort with three ski lifts, two of which are in active function: Trail 1 designed for beginners and children and a group of short light paths. The length of the trail is 300 meters and it is lighten with spotlights, always ready for night skiing. The capacity of the lift is 500 skiers per hour. Trail 2 is not in use. Trail 3 is designed for advanced skiers and belongs to the group of medium / heavy tracks. It is 700 meters long, and the first 200 meters have larger slopes and are not suitable for inexperienced skiers. The capacity of the ski lift anchor is about 1500 skiers per hour.
The whole stage is equipped with floodlights for night skiing and artificial snow cannons .On the trail every year is held famous Osogovski slalom.
