Krusevo

Krushevo, former ethno town of Krushevo Republic is situated in the western part of Republic of Macedonia .Typically mountain town with an average altitude of 1350meters considered to be the highest town in the Balkans. Nearby, just above the town is located the monument Makedonium and the Memorial house of the famous music legend Toshe Proeski, whose birthplace is this beautiful town.

Krusevo is a Macedonian winter destination due to  it’s height , but certainly is visited throught the year  because of the rich history , beautiful architecture and nature. Surrounded by massif of Bushova Mountain, with its pleasant scenery, Krusevo offers great opportunities for skiing from December to early March. The ski slopes are located directly to the city at an altitude of 1400 meters and are suitable for professional skiers  and beginners .The city is connected to the ski slopes by cable car .

Ski clubs organize schools for beginners and rent  equipment . Special attention is paid to Nordic skiing from which arise future professionals. Walking throughout the glittering slopes covered with snow represents a real attraction in the snowy town of Krushevo.

The ski slopes are located in the Stanich area, equipped with ski lifts : two-seater with  capacity of 700 persons / hour ; ski lift anchor 700 people / hour ; single skilift capacity 600 persons / hour .Ski clubs in  Krusevo organize schools for ski beginners ,with rentable  ski  equipment .The path, that lies under the tram and the trails for Nordic running, is available for  professionals skiers.

Historic Krushevo, was mentioned for the first time in historical sources from the year 1767 as a‘mezra’, village within the property of  Hussein Bey .At the end of the XVIII century and the beginning of XIX century, Krushevo ,has become a developed and organized urban settlement. The growth of Krushevo as urban settlement is connected with the migration of Vlachs at the end of XVIII century and the beginning of XIX century. Vlachs , famous as successful  house-builders, traders , tenants , migrating workers and craftsmen , well organized their work  in the new settlement , and Mijaks immigrants from  Reka region , famous and successful builders , carvers , painters and icon painters, both  fitted in the process of economic and cultural development of the settlement.

The town  is known by the  Ilinden Uprising ,after which on August the 2^nd1903 was liberated and anounced for the first Republic on the Balkans ,Republic of Krushevo.A temporary government of six members was elected and a National Assembly consisted 60 delegates.Unfortunately the republic existed until August 13^th ,the morning of August 12^th the town was attacked by the 15000 turkish army  under the command of  Bahtiyar-Pasha .

Significant battles to defend the Republic took place at Meckin Kamen (Bear’s Stone) and at Sliva (Plum) after which the town was burned down and looted.

Economic growth positively influenced the urban community, so in the first half of the XIX century, Krusevo turned into an urban community. During the XIX century as a result to lack of security at the end of Ottoman’s rule, the Christian population of the surrounding villages continuously migrated to Krushevo, thus increasing population in the already established town.

The average January temperature amounts  to -1,3 °C, in February – 0,5°C, 2,6 °C in March, April 7,1°C 4,7°C in November and December 0,4 °C . Temperature inversions, which are common during winter months in this region, are one of the reasons for the relatively high temperatures in this season in Krusevo and giving it a specific climatic feature in terms of temperature .The number of annual average icy days in Krusevo is 178. Rainy days in Krusevo are quite unevenly deployed  throughout the year, mostly during  cold periods of the year,with a maximum in November and winter and minimum in summer period. 

Stanich ski center has on disposal three trials two ski lifts and a double-seated lift that takes you from the town directly through beech forest covering the slopes.

The paths consist of three types of double seated ropeway, easy level 350m, medium 400m and advanced level in lengths of 700m. Anchor ski lifts type 700 skiers / hour, single type capacity about 600 skiers / hour and additionall for children, small ski lift 300 skiers / hour and at ski trials snowboarding elements are available.

The center has 6 new snow cannons Areco, a new artificial lake built to support the system of snow cannons and additional two grooming machine Pisten Bully300 and PB 130, new 2013 Yamaha snowmobile and truck Bombardier.Lighting is installed for night skiing under the blue lift and the trial under the ropeway.

Nearby on the slopes of the ski center there is a hospitality facility, a restaurant that offers a variety of foods and beverages . The ski center a ski depot for ski rental and ski school as well.
